Qualifications for a Scooter:

1.  Patient must have mobility limitations that impair ability to                complete ADL's in the home
2.  Patient must have the cognition, judgement and vision to                 safely operate the equipment
3.  Patient must be able to safely operate the equipment within the      home
4.  Patient needs more assistance then cane or walker can                    provide
5.  Patient is unable to propel manual wheelchair
6.  Patient must have the handgrip, trunk strength and balance to       sit upright to operate scooter


Requirements to obtain a Scooter through Insurance:

1.  A face to face evaluation must be preformed by your doctor
2.  Your doctor must provide chart notes from the evaluation documenting the qualifications
3.  Your doctor must provide a prescription for the equipment
4.  A home evaluation must be done assuring that your able to use the scooter in the home

so we can start the process of getting you a Scooter through your insurance
Scooters can be covered by Insurance if the equipment is needed for in home use.  Scooters in comparison to Power Chairs are longer and require much more room to maneuver. 

Most scooters are now light weight and easy to transport.  Many models are able to disassemble so you can easily put them in the trunk of a small compact car.
